There are many lakes in Whatcom County, the most desirable for real estate being the two largest lakes, Lake Whatcom and Lake Samish. You can buy a Bellingham lakefront home in the Silver Beach, Alabama Hill, and Geneva neighborhoods in Bellingham to get lakefront property on Lake Whatcom. The most popular community with access to Lake Whatcom is the Sudden Valley real estate area, which also has access to their own exclusive lake, Lake Louise.

Bellingham has a smaller lake, Lake Padden, which is situated off Samish Way close to I5. You can find real estate near Lake Padden in the South Bellingham and Happy Valley neighborhoods in Bellingham. Also within the city limits of Bellingham you can find two very small lakes near Cornwall Park. These are Sunset Pond and Heron Pond which you can have waterfront access by purchasing a home in the Cornwall Park neighborhood or the Mt. Baker neighborhood.
